Frequently Asked Questions

  • Qmlativ is the latest version of Skyward's Student Information System, designed to manage everything from student records and grades to scheduling and staff data—all in one place. It’s a major upgrade from the older SMS 2.0 system, offering a more modern, cloud-based platform that’s faster, easier to use, and more flexible.

Switching to Qmlativ is a full system overhaul. It involves updating our software, servers, licenses, vendor agreements, and security systems. As part of this transition, we’ll also be reviewing and adjusting some of our district processes to make the most of Qmlativ’s new features.

  • Multi-Factor Authentication is required for staff users of Qmlativ. More details can be found on our Multi-Factor Authentication page.

Students and Family Access users are not required to use MFA in Skyward Qmlativ.

  • Skyward is phasing out its older system, SMS 2.0, and replacing it with a newer, more modern system called Qmlativ. The switch is happening because SMS 2.0 is built on outdated technology that’s becoming harder to support and update. Qmlativ was designed to better meet the needs of today’s schools and staff.

Here’s what makes Qmlativ a better choice:

    • Easier to Use: Qmlativ has a clean, modern layout with simple menus and a powerful search tool, making it easy for anyone—even those who aren’t tech-savvy—to find what they need quickly.
    • Faster and More Efficient: It runs more smoothly and responds faster, helping staff work more efficiently.
    • Better Reports and Flexibility: Qmlativ offers stronger reporting tools and more customization options to better fit each school district’s needs.
    • Access from Anywhere: Because it’s cloud-based, Qmlativ can be used from any device with internet access—perfect for working remotely or on the go.
  • Clean-up of data: The HR, Business Services, and IT teams are working on clean-up of data in Skyward to migrate current and high-quality data.

Input and planning: There are 19 focus groups representing various user groups and system modules throughout the district. Each group is tasked with reviewing district business practices to align with Qmlativ.

Training: Focus group members are tasked with reviewing the Qmlativ training resources to assist with mapping out the training plan for all users in the district. Training will be provided to users prior to migration
